The gospel tells us that, because of His great love for us, God sent His one and only son, Jesus Christ, to the earth as a missionary. Jesus selflessly laid down His perfect life so that we could be saved from the curse of sin. Therefore, Jesus Christ has revealed to all of us what it looks like to live a “missional” lifestyle.
Here at Emmaus Church it is our desire to follow the example of King Jesus and to be missional in everything that we do. This means that we, as a church and individually, see ourselves as missionaries in the context God has placed us in (where we live, work, and play). Our desire is to always be looking for ways that we can make a gospel impact in areas across Gwinnett County and Northeast Georgia.
As a church, we also partner with several gospel-centered organizations in Gwinnett and Hall counties in an effort to reach people with the good news about Jesus. We currently partner with StreetWise, the SaltLight Center, Backpack Love, and Beautiful Feet. These are wonderful organizations that God is using to reach people for the gospel and we are excited to partner with them.
Much of our local mission work is done through our Missional Community Groups. We call them “Missional” Community Groups because we want them to work together as a group to live missionally in the neighborhoods God has them. Currently, we have groups scattered throughout Gwinnett, Hall, and Forsyth counties. Our prayer is that God will bring His gospel to the people in these neighborhoods and use these MC groups to meet the needs in those particular areas.
A large part of our relationship with the local ministry StreetWise includes participating in something called the Share Project at Emmaus. At these Share Projects we throw a block party for the neighborhoods surrounding our church. We have fun activities for locally underprivileged families, provide them with lunch, worship together, share a gospel presentation, and then send them home with a month’s worth of groceries.
